Vice Chair
1. Cordelia Wright
I am applying for the role of Vice Chair and also Careers coordinator as I have a passion for encouraging people who are navigating their path towards brighter and more fulfilling futures within the legal profession.
My belief is due to my experience of working in recruitment previously and having been active with the Windrush home office scandal as a justice activist, my skills will be beneficial to all of you who are our future solicitors, barristers, silks and judges, as I will endeavour to provide the best quality networking events and all the best opportunities for both personal and professional growth.
My past experience at the Open University and OULS events can assist me in engaging more OULS members, not only to become stronger candidates for available placements, but also to experience a thriving and continuously evolving community of responsible leaders who can equip them with the right tools to integrate responsible and well informed future career decisions leading to sustainable jobs and suitable work environments.
If you decide to vote me in I can promise and deliver on the fact I will support, encourage and elevate you all to the absolute best of my ability, because nothing will give me more pleasure or joy to see you all find the best environments within your chosen future profession to grow and be successful in every possible way.
2. Samuel Reese
The Society is a mission to give everyone, no matter their background, a chance to succeed in the very competitive world of law. It boasts an incredible member of members, and an incredible team of volunteers who turn their own precious time into the opportunities and insights we all value.
After attending the events and seeing the team in action, it would be a tremendous privilege to be able to offer some of my time in giving back to the society to assist with their work in whatever way I can. There are ample avenues to branch the Society out and grow it to the benefit of its members. Trish and the others have done a tremendous job already, and simply need extra hands to carry out.
To that end my goals are threefold. First, to be present and assist with the administration of events in collaboration with Trish and the rest of the team. Secondly, endeavour to network and build relationships with legal professionals who would be willing to judge or assist with mooting or other competitions the Society may hold. Finally, as Master of the Moots, look to increase the competitions or workshops as possible, both virtually and in-person.
3. Jack Tomlinson
I am running for the positions of Vice Chair and Careers Coordinator of the Open University Law Society. I have a strong commitment to support our member's academic, professional, and personal development, and I believe my collaborative approach, strategic mindset, and strong organisational skills make me well suited to serve in either or both roles.
As Vice Chair, I will work closely with the Chair to ensure the smooth running of the committee and uphold the values and procedures set out in the Charter. I will provide continuity and stability, assisting with oversight of committee business, helping Officers meet their objectives, and ensuring the Society continues to operate with integrity and transparency. I will also step in confidently to represent the Society in the Chair’s absence.
As Careers Coordinator, I will lead on curating a high-impact, inclusive programme of career events to meet the diverse aspirations of our membership. This will include inviting guest speakers from across the legal sector such as CPS and defence barristers, high street and corporate solicitors, and professionals from family law through to international law. I will also seek to host discussions with legal advisors, in-house counsel, negotiators, paralegals, and legal aid practitioners to give students a well-rounded understanding of the legal profession. Panel events, Q&As, and informal networking sessions will all be explored.
I am open to holding one or both roles, depending on the outcome of the election and the needs of the committee. My focus will be on delivering structured, impactful, and well-communicated contributions that enhance the experience of every OULS member.
I appreciate your time and consideration, and I hope to be entrusted with the opportunity to contribute to the Society through service on the committee.
4. Sebastian Weir
I’m running for Vice-Chair of the Open University Law Society to help create a space
where every student regardless of background, location, or life stage feels welcomed,
supported, and inspired.
As an OU Law student, I know how isolating distance learning can feel. That’s why I’m passionate about making OULS more than just a society it should feel like a community. If elected, I’ll prioritise connection, inclusion, and opportunity. I want our events to excite, not just inform think virtual socials with breakout rooms to really meet people, or themed “legal careers nights” featuring guest speakers who answer the questions we want to ask.
I will champion the voices of all students, especially underrepresented groups, to ensure their needs are prioritised in decision making.
I will advocate for safe spaces and events that celebrate our diverse identities and experiences. I’m full of fresh ideas: from launching a Peer Buddy Scheme to help new members settle in, to running “Moot & Mingle” evenings where you can practice advocacy without pressure. I want to give every member the confidence to participate, whether it's their first time mooting or their tenth.
I believe leadership is about amplifying others, not being the loudest voice. I’ll be someone who listens, acts, and shows up whether to help run a workshop or lend an ear during assignment stress. I’ll work closely with the Chair and committee to ensure every initiative is smoothly executed and member driven.
Ultimately, I’m not just applying for a title I’m applying to serve. I want to help create the kind of society where students look back and think: “That’s where I found my voice. That’s where I found my people.”
